Does anyone know what is planned for the open field across from the Yee Hong Centre - south side of White's Hill in between Bur Oak and Walkerville.

It is owned by the catholic church but they have already come out and said the property is too small for a church.  So eventually it will be sold but that will likely be many years from now.

The Cornell Secondary plan does have a provision for condos/retail for that property.

The Secondary plan shows two options for the Catholic Church lands (SW of Whites Hill & Bur Oak). The first option is all the lands are used for a church. The 2nd option is the west half is used for a church and the East half used for Retail/residential. See page 61.

The lands north of Yee Hong are designated for Residential.

Either way nothing has been planned for these sites.

Re: The lands that Steve H mentions at SW Buroak & Whites Hill.  Both parcels of land are still full blocks on Registered Plans.  This means that prior to any further construction on these lands (other than uses the properties are already used for) will require applications to the City of Markham and the Committee of Adjustment.  With that said the public will have a chance to put forward some input into a developers proposed revisions for the land use, and proposed zoning/subdivision of the lands.
Notifications of the impending changes would be sent out to land owners within a radius (300 metres) and signage erected on the properties regarding the nature of the proposed change and public meeting dates and written submission info.
If your interested keep your eyes open for the big white and yellow signs.

So let's see...we've lived here for over 15 years now, and still no local grocery store, restaurants, cafes or other shops & services beyond the plethora of nail salons & physio places.
Delayed indefinitely!
Methinks I'll be in a retirement home or pushing up daisies before these developers complete the live-play-work-shop-within-walking-distance of the Cornell vision.
Discouraging.

I hear you. Huh

I posted a thread asking if we will be getting in a 24/7 grocery store to see if anyone knows.

But to your point, even just a grocery store would be good - Seems long overdue!

I originally posted it in general but then moved it to this forum thinking it was more suitable here.

But now I see how little traffic is in this forum, I may move it back.

On the up side, apparently there is a new bakery and coffee shop (with ltd hours):

Here is the latest on the Multi-use Pathway.

For those not familiar with the eastern portion of this Pathway here is an update on the Bob Hunter Memorial Park (14th ave and Reesor Rd - next to Box Grove) that is also a part of Rouge Park. Most of these trails already exist with the remainder to be completed in 2015.

I have updated the central park and transit terminal projects with the latest information.  It looks like the lease for the grocery store fell through so I have updated the Lindvest project to Delayed.

Is that in regards to the 'Cornell Woods' plaza? Does that mean that whole development will be delayed?

Yes, this relates to Cornell Woods.  Any commercial development needs a lead tenant and for Lindvest they have always stated they needed a grocery store to sign up before they would build anything.

Steve H, where do we find the updated (or original) Viva Terminal and Park status reports you mention above?

Good to see that they are planning to build 4 lit tennis courts in the new Cornell Park.  There aren't too many tennis courts in close proximity to our area.  Hope that they will have a proper surface, and not of the black asphalt variety that chews up the balls!

I remember hearing that Sobeys was the store, so it could be linked to their restructuring.
I wonder how hard it is to find grocery store that is interested. I figured they'd want to jump at such opportunity.

Sobeys closed their 24 hour store on McGowan not long ago so I would say it is doubtful they would be opening another now.

I hope some 24 hour store opens nearby.
